First Edition [Office of the Sorel Gazette - 1866]. This is the standard history of the Abenaki [Abnaki] nation, written by a missionary who lived among them, and later wrote at least two defenses of their rights. This copy is superbly rebound in brown cloth with gilt titles. The edges of the text block are speckled, and the book bears a book store rubber stamp on the title page just below the date. The bookseller is J. O. Filteau and Sons in Quebec, and appears to be the original seller. The book has also been supplied with new endpapers, but is truly an exceptional copy with the errata page at the rear. An exceptional copy of the First Edition!
